5 Things We Learned From Our Instagram Live Interview With Cairde

To celebrate two years of The Irish Dance Globe, we caught up with our first-ever cover stars to hear all about their rapid rise

During our recent livestream with Cairde to celebrate The Irish Dance Globe turning two, we spoke to our first-ever cover stars to hear all about their viral rise to fame and life lately. Since we last spoke, they’ve performed on Good Morning America, danced in the White House, and continued to gain followers in their millions. Here are five things we learned from our interview with Cairde’s Ronan O’Connell, Frances Fallon, Stephen McGuinness, Dara Kelly and Seamus Morrison.

Performing at the White House for President Biden was as amazing as it sounds

Last year, the group was invited by the President of the United States to perform at the White House for St Patrick’s Day. Over the three days they spent at the White House, they met the President twice and were able to film plenty of videos there, making the US capital one of their favourite filming locations so far. Cairde added this stop to their already impressive resume — which includes dancing on Good Morning America, performing at festivals, and even filming a movie.

They filmed as extras for the Netflix film The School For Good And Evil

Netflix reached out to the Cairde crew to appear as extras in the 2022 film The School For Good And Evil. Filming was taking place in Belfast, and to their surprise the extras were asked to learn to waltz. In our live interview, the boys said it was “unreal” to be a part of such a large-scale production and to have the opportunity to work with such skilled choreographers.

Their inspiration comes from trends and songs they’re enjoying

When asked where they get find inspiration for their viral dance videos, Cairde said they like to base it off of current trends and music they like. The weather and vibe of the video are the biggest influences on their creative process. A more modern song might require an urban environment, while trad music calls for a countryside background. You will often see them wearing bright colours and adapting current TikTok and Instagram trends to fit Irish dancing and their particular style. Sometimes, they’re even recognised while filming videos around their local areas.

They’re jet-setting world travellers

Cairde have been invited to perform all over the world, but their favourite filming locations include: The White House (obviously), Times Square in New York City, the Cliffs of Moher and Paris.

The Irish Dance Globe was their first magazine cover

During our live interview, we of course knew that Cairde were our first cover stars, but we were also their first magazine cover. They remembered their shoot with photographer Gary Collins, sharing with our followers that it was a fun and exciting day for them. And, as it turned out, it would be the first of more to come.
